Sheriff’s report

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Monday, April 7: At 12:29 am a deputy checked on a reported fire in the 1900 block of L Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 12:56 am Michael Olson, 63, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of public intoxication*. At 9:39 am a deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 12:29 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. Joseph Charleston, 54, of Scranton was arrested on a charge of domestic abuse assault- third or subsequent offense*.

Sunday, April 6: At 2:58 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of E. Central St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, April 5: At 6:28 pm Kyle Whitehead, 41, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of harassment- second degree*.

Friday, April 4: At 5:37 pm a deputy assisted the Gowrie PD with locating a juvenile in the 2000 block of 190th St in Junction Township. At 8:36 pm Jacob Day, 35, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of operating while intoxicated, interference with official acts, and trespass*.

Thursday, April 3: At 3:54 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 6:55 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 100 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 4:17 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 800 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 5:59 pm Sharlene Gingery, 60, of Carroll was booked into the jail on a charge of driving while license barred*. At 6:39 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Eric Emery of Denison struck a deer with a 2020 Ford Escape, causing an estimated $8,000 in damage to the vehicle.

Wednesday, April 2: At 3:36 am the sheriff and a deputy assisted with an arrest of a juvenile at Greene County Community Center in Jefferson. At 6:17 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 100 block of W. Percival St in Rippey. At 8:19 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of Head St in Churdan. At 9:17 pm a deputy and a Jefferson police officer responded to a report of something floating in the river at Henderson Park. A plastic ball was found.

Tuesday, April 1: At 4:52 am a deputy, Greene County Ambulance, and Grand Junction Fire and Resue responded to a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 30 at W Ave east of Grand Junction. Candido Grijalva of Perry was northbound on W Ave driving a 2008 Honda CRV. Grijalva failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of Justin Geisler of Scranton, who was eastbound on Hwy 30 driving 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Both drivers and one passenger were transported by ambulance to Greene County Medical Center for injuries. Grijalva was cited for failure to yield the right of way and failure to have insurance. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident. At 10:47 am a deputy investigated a scam in the 600 block of 110th St in Cedar Township. At 8:10 pm Zachary Smith, 23, of Lake City was booked into the jail on charges of domestic abuse assault and simulated public intoxication*. At 8:15 pm Michelle Cook, 25, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance- second offense*.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
